Sample Collection Information Document for Chemicals, Radiochemicals and Biotoxins - Companion to Selected Analytical Methods for Environmental Remediation and Recovery (SAM) 2017. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/R-17/389, 2017.

Impact/Purpose:

There is a need for sampling and sample strategy tools to facilitate sampling and analysis of chemical, biological or radiological (CBR) contaminated samples in response to an intentional/unintentional incident. This Sample Collection Information Document (SCID) provides information needed for the collection of samples to be analyzed using the specific methods and procedures that have been selected for chemicals, radiochemicals and biotoxins found in the Selected Analytical Methods for Environmental Remediation and Recovery (SAM) 2017 document. The information is intended to be used during site assessment, remediation and clearance activities following a contamination incident. Information is included regarding containers, collection volume or weight, preservation, holding times, and packaging of samples representing the sample types and analytes included in SAM 2017. The information is intended for use by EPA and its contractors when collecting samples to ensure that necessary supplies are at the contaminated site and that proper volumes are collected, preserved, and properly shipped to the laboratory for analysis.
